SAN JOSE – Hundreds of affordable homes could rise next to a busy church in south San Jose, according to plans city officials ponder.
The proposed residences would be offered to both families and seniors and would be just blocks from the Curtner Light Rail Station.
“This project proposes the development of affordable family and senior housing units,” states an introductory section of the preliminary proposal submitted to the San Jose planners.
The new affordable home project is on Canoas Garden Ave. Planned in San Jose in 2315. It’s a place near the State Route 87 interchange and Curtner Avenue, as the city planning documents show.
The development site is also right next to the Cathedral of Faith, a Christian church listed on Wikipedia as the United States Mega Church.
The houses would be built on a portion of the church grounds that is currently a parking lot that serves the existing complex.
The development site is part of 13.4 acres owned by Friendly Bible Church Inc., according to records held with the Santa Clara County Assessor’s Office.
The Church of the Doctrine of the Faith, two school facilities and a daycare center would be preserved if the houses were approved and built, as the plans show.
Sand Hill Property Co. submitted the development proposal. The plans on file with the city are very tentative and will be distributed at the San Jose City Hall for feedback and guidance from city planners.
The proposal envisages two residential buildings, each with five floors. The buildings would contain a common room on each level.
One of the buildings would consist of affordable homes for families. The other building would contain affordable homes for the elderly.
The residences in the project would consist of studios as well as 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom units.
According to the plans at hand, the complex would include an inner courtyard.
