SAN JOSE – At Home, home decor retailer, is opening a new store in north San Jose on the site of an enclosed Lowe home improvement store.
The new store – the first in the Bay Area for the retailer – is slated to open later this month, according to At Home.
According to At Home, expansion will resume after a hiatus in 2020 due to the economic uncertainties sparked by the coronavirus.

Right before the new San Jose home furnishings store opened, At Home opened stores in New York, New Jersey, and Colorado in the past few days.
“We are excited to expand our long-term potential to operate more than 600 stores in the United States,” said Lee Bird, At Home chief executive officer.
At Home’s new San Jose store is located on 750 Newhall Drive in the Coleman Landings shopping mall, near the city’s airport and Earthquakes football stadium.
Texas-based At Home has sublet the Lowes Home Improvement store.
The store is a total of 139,400 square feet, according to public documents. The duration of the sublease was not disclosed immediately.
At Home had planned to open the store in San Jose for a while but didn’t do so while the coronavirus continued to rage. In January 2020, At Home received approval from the City of San Jose for extensive improvements and rebuilding work inside the store building.

“We have suspended all new openings and renovation projects and eliminated all discretionary investments,” said At Home in a press release from April 2020.
Previously, the company had temporarily closed all stores to save money if store sales fell due to customer concerns related to coronavirus and operational downtime.

Now, however, the retailer appears poised to push further expansion efforts.
In addition to the San Jose store, At Home has branches in the city of Clovis, Central Valley, and in the southern California cities of San Diego, Riverside, and Foothill Ranch.
