Just 13 minutes ago, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 struck near San Jose, Municipio de San José, Departamento de Escuintla, Guatemala. The tremor was recorded at 7:20 p.m. local time in the early evening on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at a shallow depth of 13 miles below the surface.
The event was submitted by the Nicaraguan Territorial Studies Institute (INETER), the first seismological agency to report on it.
