The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is a progressive, diverse, and progressive fire department. Our goal is to preserve San José’s outstanding heritage by recruiting candidates who reflect the rich makeup of our diverse population. We are currently hiring the following positions:
- Analyst I / II (Fire Communication Department)
Application deadline: May 24, 2021
Fire Communications Analyst I / II is responsible for analytical work in areas including, but not limited to, call handling times, overtime, hiring, and budget. This is a newly authorized position that offers the selected candidate an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in establishing formal analytical processes within Fire Communications. - Deputy Director of Administrative Services
Application deadline: June 11, 2021
The deputy director is responsible for overseeing the fire brigade’s operating and capital budgets, financial management, grants, revenue generation, human resources and internal affairs, and information technology. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in various projects that will have a positive impact on the community of the City of San José and will support all other SJFD offices and divisions. - Desktop / System Support Technician (Network Technician I / II / III)

The Desktop / System Support Technician (Network Technician I / II / III) provides comprehensive technical support for critical computer systems that enable critical fire department operations, such as: E.g .: network connectivity for remote locations and fire fighting equipment / equipment as well as proactive and efficient support The corporate desktop / client environment, which includes the latest Windows operating systems, the Office 365 suite, mobile devices and other business software. - Hazardous Substance Inspector II

Hazardous materials inspectors promote public wellbeing by ensuring commercial and industrial facilities comply with government regulations on safety codes. The Hazardous Materials Inspector may be assigned to the Hazardous Materials Development Group to conduct design reviews and inspections or the Hazardous Materials Code Enforcement Group to conduct detailed field inspections of facilities where hazardous materials are stored, handled or used, including highly hazardous materials only found in Silicon Valley. - Chief Engineer (Fire Protection Office)
Application deadline: June 2, 2021
The lead engineer will assume an oversight role and lead a group of employees, including associate engineers, who are responsible for plan reviews and inspections of life safety systems, fire alarm systems and fire fighting systems. Selected candidates also perform administrative duties in support of the technical department’s requirements, monitor department performance, coordinate with other city authorities, write policies and procedures, and exercise judgment in the application of applicable codes.
