  • Jon Cicirelli, Director of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS)
  • Matt Cano, Public Works Director
  • Brett Bymaster and Maria Marcelo, community stakeholders

The idea for Tamien Park began in 1995 with the approval of the specific plan for Tamien Station, which defined how the needs of the park’s residents could be met. Community meetings to develop the park master plan began in 2009. The 3.5-acre park is the product of a $ 3 million grant from the state’s Housing Related Parks program in 2014 and 2015.

The second and final phase of Tamien Park adds a versatile rotating field with a circumferential jogging path, an outdoor stage and fitness area, a picnic area, additional benches, seating walls and landscaping. Phase one was completed in 2017 and included a toilet, playground, basketball court, volleyball court and a facility on the site.

The park is a collaboration between councilor Raul Peralez, the parks, PRNS, the public works department and a member of the Tamien district.

The city-wide sports program of the PRNS is now accepting reservations for the multi-purpose lawn from June to August 2021. Further information and applications can be found on the department’s website.
