The rumors have been seeping away for a couple of years, but now it’s official:
Third wave Philz Coffee opens a store in Willow Glen, San Jose.
The Bay Area coffee roaster and pouring specialist is moving into the vacated space on Lincoln Avenue when the running store Athletic Performance (now Athletic Treads) moved a few doors down.
“We are currently under construction at this location and are planning an opening in mid to late May if everything stays on schedule,” said a marketing representative from Philz.
The addition will give Lincoln Avenue a major jolt in Java: there is a Peet across the street and a Starbucks at the other end of the avenue.
This will be the second Philz for San Jose; The first opened a few years ago on Paseo de San Antonio in downtown near San Jose State University. The South Bay / Peninsula area is now home to a number of Philz, including stores in Campbell, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and Los Gatos.
Founder Phil Jaber opened his first store in San Francisco in 2003 – and that was decades after he started experimenting with blending beans. The company now has stores in more than 52 communities. Outside of California, Philz is located in Chicago and Washington, DC
