San Jose man arrested in connection with two arson attacks

MOUNTAIN VIEW – A 28-year-old San Jose man was arrested in connection with two arson attacks in Mountain View, police said.

The fires were started every minute on Tuesday, Mountain View Police Department said in a press release on Thursday. The first concerned a palm tree on Latham Street and Escuela Avenue and the second concerned a dumpster in Rengstorff Park.

In both cases, the suspect was described as a 25 to 30-year-old man in dark clothes and black shoes with white soles.

A city park official spotted a man who matched the suspect’s description in the park shortly after the dumpster and said he would contact the police if he saw him again. On Wednesday, the clerk alerted police that the man had returned to the park.

The officers spoke to the man in the park and “learned that he was actually the suspect in both arson cases,” police said. The officers also found that he was bailed in San Jose for vehicle manslaughter.

The man was arrested and sent to Santa Clara County Jail for arson and bail crime.
