San Jose Restaurant Week options new flavors and scrumptious choices

San Jose’s version of restaurant week, titled “Dine Downtown,” started on Friday night. If you like specials, some restaurants offer prix-fixe menus, specialty cooks, and food and drink pairings to attract customers.

In the SuperGood Kitchen, chefs perfect what is known as home cooking. The owners are local and didn’t open the restaurant until February in hopes of bringing new flavors to the city center.

“We’re trying to revive it and bring new things, new styles, new kitchens,” said Chef Jon Solis of SuperGood Kitchen.

SuperGood is one of 22 restaurants participating in Dine Downtown. Dining Week, now in its eleventh year, shows the city’s diverse culinary experiences and unique concepts not found elsewhere, as San Jose competes with other cities in the Bay Area for guests and dollars.

In the family-run Elyse Restaurant, the chefs serve a mix of Vietnamese and French cuisine.

“The cuisine we create is more traditional, but with a modern twist,” said Chef Bao Vu of the Elyse Restaurant.

“Dine Downtown was really designed to get more people to our restaurants at a time traditionally slower for restaurants across the industry,” said Bree of Faith of the San Jose Downtown Association.

The San Jose Downtown Association said the city has seen significant growth with more than 200 downtown restaurants and expects an influx of new restaurants as the Bay Area’s largest city continues to grow.

“We’re in a development cycle,” said von Faith. “We have over 50 projects in the city center and seven cranes in the sky in the pipeline. We have several new housing offers in the next few months. “

With that growth, foodies have said they’ve seen the San Jose food scene develop over the past few years, but the city remains true to its culinary roots.

“I love going to San Francisco, Mission District, and North Beach, but San Jose has more of a community feel,” said Leticia Elias of San Jose.

Dine Downtown starts on Friday and lasts through July 28th.

The participating restaurants include 71 Saint Peter, Café Stritch, the District, Elyse Restaurant, Enoteca la Storia, Farmer’s Union, Grill in der Gasse, Hawaiian Poke Bowl, Il Fornaio in the Westin, the Lobby Lounge in Fairmont, the Loft Bar & Bistro, McCormick & Schmick, Mezcal, Mosaik, Nemea, Nomikai, Olla Cocina, Ozumo Santana Row, Scotts Seafood, SP2 Communal, SuperGood Kitchen and Sushi Confidential
