San Jose Sharks forward Kurtis Gabriel was fined after starting a pre-game argument with Los Angeles Kings

NEW YORK – The National Hockey League has fined San Jose Sharks forward Kurtis Gabriel and coach Bob Boughner after a pre-game argument with the Los Angeles Kings.

Gabriel was fined $ 3,000 and Boughner was fined $ 5,000 on Tuesday. The sharks have also been given a conditional fine of $ 25,000 to be levied if there is similar inappropriate behavior over the next year.

Gabriel checked Los Angeles defenseman Kurtis MacDermid in the pre-game warm up in the back area near the center ice. The two then fought in the first period.

Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said he wants his players to play hard but “do so and whistle in the context of the game.” Wilson said he agreed with the punishment and that the team raised her up internally.

The sharks will host the kings on Wednesday evening.
