The deceased woman was washed up on Santa Cruz Beach, identified as a San Jose resident – Santa Cruz Sentinel
SANTA CRUZ – The Santa Cruz County Coroner Office has identified the woman found dead in the surf on Main Beach Thursday.
Last week, around 6 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a water rescue on the beach after a person failed to pull the woman out of the water. Officials revealed her identity as Sandra Lee Plymire, 70, from San Jose on Tuesday following a notification to her immediate relatives.
Police investigators worked this week to track Plymire’s final steps before she drowned, which Lt. Arnold Vasquez didn’t seem like a bad game. A passing community member on the beach first noticed that Plymire was floating face down in the surf line and was trying to pull her to shore. After wrestling unsuccessfully with the tide, the man called for emergency aid, Vasquez said.
Vasquez said he believed Plymire was likely swept into Monterey Bay from east of Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. The department has asked anyone with information on the case to call the police at 831-420-5820.
