The Fairmont Resort in downtown San Jose is present process a serious overhaul

SAN JOSE – The Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose, an iconic property in the urban core of the city, has been redesigned with a major overhaul of the lobby and bar.

The renovation will usher in a new bar, lounge and dining experience at the hotel, which is a cornerstone of the convention and theater district in downtown San Jose.

The renovation cost nearly $ 10 million, according to Fairmont executives.

The Rockwell Group, an award-winning architecture and design firm that has designed numerous locations in Planet Hollywood, Nobu Restaurant and W Hotel, as well as eye-catching projects in Manhattan, has redesigned the Fairmont.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the Rockwell Group on this huge lobby transformation,” said Dan McGowan, general manager of Fairmont San Jose.

The upgrades also included the main entrance foyer and guest registration areas.

The lobby bar will reopen as the Arca Bar and Lounge, hotel officials said.

The upgrade is particularly welcome, given the economic devastation and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus, said Matthew Martinucci, a senior executive with the San Jose team, which manages the San Jose Convention Center and four municipal cultural theaters.

“The newly renovated public areas at Fairmont San Jose are an asset to downtown,” said Martinucci. “The debut of these new spaces could not have come at a better or more important time in the restoration of downtown San Jose.”

The consequences of the deadly coronavirus have shaken the hotel industry worldwide and locally.

Hotel and tourism officials believe the combination of wood, marble and new lighting treatments will make the lobby and lounge areas more welcoming to visitors.

“The new aesthetic of the Fairmont is fresh and inviting,” said Martinucci.

The Arca Lounge and the converted lobby are due to reopen in the spring or summer.

“We know this new bar and lounge will be a favorite with both visitors and locals as we work to rebuild the strength of this community,” said McGowan.

Located in a key San Jose location on South Market Street, the Fairmont Hotel is considered key to downtown views.

“The hotel is already a well-established first class meeting place within walking distance of all downtown restaurants and attractions,” said Martinucci. “Now groups and visitors can enjoy the redesigned bar and lounge as the start or end of their San Jose experience.”
