The residential “terrain” of the studio aisle will be the urban sprawl of San Jose. redesign
in addition to its larger arbor workplaces, studio gang will present its dynamic residential project ‘terraine’ for the westbank campus in san jose. Developed jointly by Westbank, Urban Community, Peterson, Optrust and Terrascape Ventures, ‘terraine’ will be the seventh project on the entire campus. together, ‘arbor’ and ‘terraine’ celebrate the spirit of westbank’s goal of transforming urban sprawl into a vibrant city where your community will live, work and spend time. Terraine will add beautifully designed residences to complement Arbor’s neighboring workspaces so that those who work in San Jose don’t commute from other areas but rather connect with the growing city.

‘terraine’ and ‘arbor’ are designed by Studio-Gang to complement each other while celebrating the spirit of the West Bank campus. The two buildings – separated between living and working area programs – will share resources, energy and a public space along the street. the urban intervention will activate the quarter and create a lively pavement life. Terraine will fuel the West Bank’s efforts towards an overall initiative that will achieve net zero carbon or even carbon positive. Both the terrain and the arbor are climate-friendly structures that are designed for high sustainability and adapt to different environmental conditions on different sides of the site.
West Bank’s Andrew Jacobson comments on Terraine, which was co-designed with Studio Gang: “We are very excited to add this project to our Silicon Valley campus. Terraine will be a residential project that not only complements our arbor workspace project next door, but also helps tackle the fundamental challenges of balancing office and living in Silicon Valley. Our goal is to contribute to this balance and at the same time to respond to climate change, whereby this project and all our projects in the initiative are aimed at achieving net zero together. ‘
