San José State University sports director Marie Tuite announced Friday that the men’s basketball coach, Jean Prioleau, would be fired.
Prioleau, who was hired on August 4, 2017, will no longer be retained after his four years at school. His four-year head coach record with the Spartans was 20-93.
Prioleau had an 8-62 record in the Mountain West game. In the past two years, winning three league games a year has seen slight improvements compared to one in his first two seasons.
“After meeting with coach Prioleau, he was informed that the university was making a change in leadership in the men’s basketball program,” said Tuite.
Prioleau was an assistant coach in Colorado for eight seasons before joining the Spartans.
These Spartans only had one winning season this century when the team played between 17 and 16 in the 2010-11 season at WAC. Last place in an NCAA tournament was when they were in the Big West and got 16 seeds in 1995-96. That year they did a conference tournament run to make the car big, finishing with a 13-17 record.
