The state of San Jose traveled to Arizona to play the Instances-Herald New Yr’s bowl sport

As the champion of Mountain West, the state of San Jose is on its way to the Arizona Bowl.

The Spartans will play Central American champion Ball State at Arizona Stadium in Tucson on December 31st.

San Jose State (7-0) secured their place in the Arizona Bowl with a 34:20 win over Boise State in Saturday’s Mountain West Championship game in Las Vegas.

No matter what happened against Boise State, San Jose State knew their magical season wouldn’t end at Sam Boyd Stadium. The Spartans had secured a bowl game for the fifth time in the past 30 years. The last time was in 2015 when they defeated Georgia State in the Cure Bowl to end a 6-7 season.

The only question for the state of San Jose was where it would play.

The state of San Jose, winning 7-0 for the first time since the 13-0 win in 1939, made the process easy by claiming the place designated for the Mountain West champion.

The goal should be the first LA Bowl in Los Angeles, which would have compared the top team from Mountain West against an opponent from the Pac-12. But the LA Bowl was canceled last week due to COVID-19.

Now the Mountain West champion is on his way to the desert.

If the Spartans lost on Saturday, they let most forecasters play at the Birmingham Bowl on New Years Day.
