The Topgolf franchise opens in San Jose after a one-year delay

SAN JOSE, California – – After about a year of delay, a new golf entertainment venue opened on Friday in South Bay.
The facility is a towering new landmark on Highway 237 in North San Jose.
“This is my first time at Topgolf. I think it’s great. It’s fun to practice there,” said Sandy Le from Los Angeles.
Welcome to Topgolf. The entertainment franchise had a grand opening for its first location in the Bay Area on Friday.
The milestone comes after a year-long delay as construction stopped last year due to the pandemic.
“It’s just a great relief and an amazing achievement to open this up,” said Travis Miller, director of operations at Topgolf San Jose.
Topgolf San Jose is a three-tier entertainment venue with 120 golf game hangouts, where groups can rent an area for $ 40 to $ 60 an hour, depending on the time of day.
The 83,000 square meter facility in Alviso is a flagship, similar to Las Vegas, and Topgolf’s second location in California.
Topgolf already has a location in Roseville and recently opened two more in the Los Angeles area.
A father, Robert Armendariz, drove up from Gilroy.
“It’s just a fun experience to be able to hit golf balls, get food and drink, and hang out,” said Armendariz. “And they have fun games for the kids.”
Masks and reservations are required due to the pandemic, and indoor public areas and bar top will remain closed.
The facility marks a new type of venue for the Alviso area.
“It was built with the environment in mind,” said David Cohen, San Jose city councilor. “They have protection on the glass for bird migration, they have built in solar.”
Most importantly, the new venue will create 600 jobs, says Nanci Klein, director of economic development in San Jose.
“Boy, it couldn’t come at a better time,” said Klein.
A time when outdoor activities are desirable and other sectors such as retail and services are badly affected.
“So many people … have been devastated by COVID. And this is one of the bright spots,” Klein said.
According to Topgolf San Jose, reservations are full for the first weekend and 150 people are still being hired.
Reservations can be made up to a week in advance.
