Not sure where the San Jose insiders eat and drink? It’s easy to spot lines coming out the door, but some underlying trends are harder to spot.
We took a data-driven look at the question and used Yelp to analyze which restaurants received an oversized notification this month.
To see who made the list, we looked at the San Jose businesses by category on Yelp and counted the number of reviews they received. Instead of just comparing them based on the number of reviews, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month and tracked companies that continually increase their review volume to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Great duper burger

Only open since December 2018, this traditional American spot, offering burgers and more, is trending compared to other companies rated “American (Traditional)” on Yelp.
In the city’s traditional American spots, new ratings rose an average of 1.6 percent last month, while Super Duper Burgers rose 81 percent and consistently maintained a superior four-star rating.
It’s not the only outlier in the traditional American category: Bill’s Cafe saw ratings jump 11.1 percent.
Located at 5399 Prospect Road in West San Jose, Super Duper Burgers offers burgers made with fresh ground beef, free-range chicken sandwiches, organic veggie burgers and shakes, and soft ice cream from the Petaluma family’s Straus organic dairy. The restaurant also makes its own pickles in-house.

Whether or not you’ve heard of Bobaholics in North Valley, where to get bubble tea, coffee, and smoothies is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.
While companies rated “Coffee & Tea” on Yelp increased their number of reviews by a median of 4.3 percent over the past month, Bobaholics saw and retained new reviews 39.6 percent over that period healthy four-star rating at.
There are even more trends in the San Jose coffee and tea scene: Dunkin ‘Donuts saw ratings rise 7.5 percent.
Bobaholics has been open at 1055 E. Brokaw Road, Suite 40, since November 2018, and offers two sides of tea options, from classics like jasmine milk tea or Thai tea with roasted hickory to matcha milk tea with sea salt. You can also design your own.

Northern San Jose Province is also making waves. The established New American and Asian Fusion Restaurant and Bar, open at N. First St., Suite 10, since October 2017, saw new ratings increase 6.2 percent last month, compared to an average increase in Ratings increased 1.4 percent for all businesses tagged “American (New)” on Yelp.
The province offers starters such as curry chicken pot pie, Mongolian beef and clay pot flax, among other things. Last month, Yelpers earned a solid four-star rating.
Benedicts Café & Bar

Benedicts Café & Bar in Cambrian Park is the liveliest breakfast and brunch spot in town by numbers.
The cocktail bar, breakfast, brunch and traditional American spot, which will be held in April 2018 at 5365 Camden Ave. opened their reviews by 11.5 percent last month, an outlier compared to the average 1.9 percent increase in reviews for the Yelp Breakfast & Brunch category.
Across the city, breakfast and brunch spots saw their new reviews increase an average of 1.2 percent last month, while Meet the Moon saw a 3.1 percent increase. Additionally, Meet the Moon’s ratings increased more than 370 percent month over month.
In addition to lunch and dinner, the Benedicts Café & Bar offers an extensive breakfast menu that is served throughout the day. Look for items like pancakes and waffles, pan plates, omelets, and five different types of eggs benedicts.
