Workplace, restaurant constructing with lounge on the roof will probably be inbuilt San Jose’s Willow Glen – Silicon Valley

SAN JOSE – A seasoned developer has begun construction in the Willow Glen neighborhood of downtown San Jose on an office and restaurant building that the real estate company hopes will be its headquarters for decades to come.

Republic Urban Properties plans to relocate its headquarters from downtown San Jose to Willow Glen by moving to a new two story building on Lincoln Ave. 1096, said Michael Van Every, president of Republic Urban Properties West Coast.

“We have been in business at 84 W. Santa Clara St. in downtown San Jose for over 15 years and we plan to be in business for another 50 years,” said Van Every. “It was important that we find the perfect permanent home in a strong business district.”

This district is Willow Glen, one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Jose. Willow Glen became a settlement in the 1860s, a parish in 1927, and annexed to San Jose in 1936.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be part of the Willow Glen business district and this great neighborhood,” said Van Every.

The project currently under construction includes Republic Urban Properties’ new main offices and a potential restaurant on both levels.

“The ground floor consists of a restaurant with an outdoor terrace,” shows a project proposal submitted to representatives of the city of San Jose. “The second floor consists of offices and a restaurant with an outdoor terrace so visitors can enjoy the pleasant weather and picturesque ambience of downtown Willow Glen.”

The building is around 18,700 square meters, including the terrace on the ground floor and the deck on the second floor, according to planning documents.

Republic Urban Properties said it was already in negotiations with some prominent Bay Area restaurants to take over the dining area in the building. The developer did not name the potential restaurant tenants.

Willow Glen will see a premiere when the building is finished: a rooftop lounge.

The building’s design is influenced by San Miguel de Allende, a city in Mexico known for its baroque Spanish colonial architecture, according to Republic Urban Properties.

“The restaurant will be a neighborhood gem for the loyal local audience that supports Willow Glen’s businesses,” said Van Every.

The developer has built, owns, or plans to build 17 properties in the Bay Area. One of the company’s projects is a large mixed-use transit village called Gateway at Millbrae Station, which is next to the BART station in this peninsula town. Republic Square, a mixed-use retail and hotel complex, is a large project in Livermore.

In Willow Glen, Republic Urban Properties expects to move to its future main building by late 2021 or early 2022.

The developer hopes the building will be a landmark and icon in the neighborhood.

“This location requires a building and users that will be part of the business district for 200 years,” said Van Every.
